Waco, Texas – December 4, 2009 – The American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (ASMBS) today announced that the Comprehensive Bariatric Center at Providence has met the standards of the AMSBS Surgical Review Corporation and has been designated as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence (SBCOE).

In such Centers of Excellence, patients can be confident that they are receiving the highest quality of care available and that their surgeons not only have excellent outcomes, but are benchmarked with other outcomes across the entire United States.

Dr. Gayland Sims, Medical Director of the Comprehensive Bariatric Center at Providence, began the program in March of 2004. Since that time, Providence has performed over 400 procedures. Dr. Sims is joined by Dr. Todd Moffatt as the physician team that navigates the care of bariatric patients alongside a dedicated staff at Providence. Together, this local team believes in patient education and continuous support that is provided from the very first contact with the Providence Center.

Continuous support from the Providence team includes group sessions and individual counseling during the lifestyle changes that come with bariatric surgical procedures. This support is offered not just to the individual, but to the family that is supporting their loved one.
